Saugus High School Shooting: Shot fired prompts lockdown at Saugus HS in California today

Saugus High School Shooting: Schools in the Saugus area were placed on lockdown Wednesday morning after reports of at least one shot fired in a nearby neighborhood, authorities said.

Law enforcement from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department responded shortly after 9 a.m. to reports of gunfire on the 22600 block of Pamplico Drive, triggering safety protocols at multiple campuses, including Saugus High School and nearby elementary and junior high schools.

Deputies and firefighters were on scene investigating what officials described as a mental health emergency, and at least one shot was confirmed to have been discharged by an individual believed to be barricaded inside a home.

In response, schools including James Foster Elementary, Emblem Academy, Arroyo Seco Junior High and Saugus High were put into a soft lockdown, meaning students and staff were sheltered in place while classes continued in secure rooms.

Sheriff’s officials urged residents to avoid the area and follow law enforcement directives as the search and containment efforts continued. As of the latest updates, no students were reported injured, and the exact circumstances surrounding the shots fired remained under active investigation.

Wednesday’s developments have reignited memories of a 2019 shooting at Saugus High School, in which a student gunman killed classmates and wounded others, a tragedy that deeply affected the Santa Clarita Valley community.

Authorities are expected to release more information as the situation develops.
